Ovarian cysts

What are Ovarian Cysts?

Ovarian cysts are usually fluid filled sacs in the ovaries. If the cysts are persistant, surgery is usually recommended to remove them.
Sometimes ovarian cysts may contain blood (endometrioma) or tissue material like fat, skin, teeth or even bones as in dermoid cysts!
Laparoscopy is the usual route in which cystectomies are done. This is surgery done through key hole incisions on the abdomen.
In certain conditions, open surgery may be required though this is not common.
